Bugeye fuel pump, I know how to test it when it is on the engine but.....

Disasembled and flushed good, all gaskets and straineres clean and shinny, valves seem ok, diaphram out and looked at it with flash light and magnifying glass, seememd ok.

Reassembled and operated it, made a squishie sound. Now you can not move fast enough to pump with it out of the car I think but what else could I do?? Seems like internals are looking like new ones and may be as good as new, at least I see nothing wrong. Even the outside of the unit looks new.

Comment? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I used to easily test mechanical pumps.
Clamp a short hose on the inlet. No air leaks.
Submerge the end of the hose in a can of liquid.
Operate the pump lever.
As you push the lever in, the pump should take a healthy gulp of liquid.
As the lever is released the liquid should be expelled from the pump output.
If you put your thumb over the outlet port, the pump should hold pressure.
A good pump will work even if the lever is moved very SLOWLY. If not, either the valves are leaking or the diaphragm is bad.

Another easy test is to blow air into the inlet. It should easily pass through the pump.
If you try to blow air in the outlet, there should be no flow. If there is flow, the outlet valve is not sealing.
