Possibly a dumb question...

But I'll ask it anyway:
With respect to the design of the BN2 frame rail, if an endplate were to be cut off would it be possible to slide an approriately sized peice of rectangular tubing down the length of the rail on the inside?

Well I guess so TimBN2, since the rails are hollow inside and any fasteners or dents that may protrude inside were removed.---Fwiw--Keoke-?

At least one (1) Healey 3000 MK III was rebuilt at Austin Healey West (San Francisco, circa 1978) using the front section of one chassis and the rear portion of another. The "splice" was made about midpoint between the outriggers and some commercially available rectangle tubing was inserted into the original frame rails and securred with rosette welds. The welds (rosette and seam) were ground smooth to make the repair undetectable.

I don't think I want to know why you're asking that question. It doesn't sound happy.

LOL... yea...just trying to explore all options regarding my frame. the choices are to repair it or replace it. Repairing is icky because of the condition it's in... its doable... but only with a whole lot of "do"! If the tube idea works then it will strengthen the original frame and allow me to "work with what i've got"

Replace is icky because of having to relocate the front and rear super structures onto the new frame! thats not including all the repairs to those!

Either way I'm not to excited about my choices...
