TR2/3/3A Adding Seatbelts to a TR3

If you were adding seat belts to a TR3 that didn't have them before and had the floor pans replaced, would you use the hardware with normal bolts and nuts and the plate you thread the belt through or the belts with eye bolts and hooks, (hope that made sense)?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Jim

I did this a couple of years ago and used normal bolts. I added the holes to the driveshaft tunnel and the inner wheel arch, not the floorpans. Can't recall if there was interference issues, you might be able to use either style.

i like the ones with the eye bolts so I found some belts with the clips. Actually I found the belts and new eye bolts came with them. Location for the inner belt mounts depends on the age of your car. If it is a pre TS60000 car then I am going to put the ones on the car I am working on at the back end of the "floor" rather than on the tunnel. For the post TS 60000 cars then the tunnel is the best choice.

I think it's really a matter of what you want...strength or originality. The eye bolts have got to be stronger, but the factory way (or rather dealer installed way) was bolts with washers.

I still haven't fully accepted the idea of seatbelts in a skinny convertable without a roll bar anyway. If you roll over, your dead. If you front end something, you're speared by the steering shaft. If you get rear ended by anything larger than an SUV, your going under...and dead.

I installed seatbelts in the TR3, but the more I think about it, it's really a roll of the dice whethter they are going to help or hurt in an accident...

Since you brought it up, I've have two accidents in TRs over the years. Both roll overs, no belts in either and was not hurt. Very lucky. I did recommend to Jim the eyebolt style.
