Hola from San Diego, CA. As you can see I am a newbie and the new proud owner of a 1980 TR7 Convertible. A bit of background, the guy I bought it from has had it sitting in a carport (roof but no front) with the top down for over 2 years. But he was willing to part with it for $250, so who am I to complain. To say the least, the car was DIRTY!
To my surprise, after checking all fluids, etc., hooked it up to a starter unit, primed the carbs - wham, it fired up after two turns!
That's the good news, the bad news is that after several days of coaxing the carb to let some gas through (yes, after isolating, cleaning or replacing and moving on - the fuel - drained tank and lines -replacing fuel filter - cleaning and checking fuel pump for operation) and finally, lifting the "piston" out of the carbs to determine if any fuel was present on the jet. All tests negative, sooo....
OFF WITH HER CARBS!
The carbs are off and I am holding two Niehoff rebuild kits for the NS carbs. And before I get started, I thought I would come to the British brain trust located on this forum, and get whatever tips, suggestions, "watch it's", etc. - before finding myself up the proverbial creek without a paddle!
Seriously, any advice would very much be appecial.
In addition, I am convinced the auto choke is hosed and wonder if any of you can point to an available manual one - hopefully telling me what I can remove from the carb area as a result of removing the auto choke (there had to be a better way to figure out how hot the engine was without running radiator fluid up there - wow!!
