Winter Project

Hi All,

I thought I would post a picture showing the progress of my winter project. I just finished the propeller shaft this morning. The Diff was an unrecognizable ball of grease. New bearings, oil seals and U-joints. Now I have begun de-gunking the underside. I came to the conclusion that the easy part has already been done. It is all progressing much slower than anticipated, but I have been treading that fine line between the "woman" in the garage, and the one that lives upstairs...

Really looks great so far Terry, keep at it and keep the pictures coming.
Yep you are treading a fine line! My wife is very understanding and really is a very good wrench, one of the reasons I married her, heh. Though "She who is to be obeyed" sometimes has to prevail!
Don't get discouraged at the time it takes to do simple projects even. Thats why it's a hobby. Your doing great keep it up!

That statement puts everything in perspective. Very profound Tinkerman. Everyone keeps asking me when will the car be done. I try to explain to them about the 'process' and how more important that seems to be then 'getting it done'.

A friend of mine finished an eight year restoration on a TR3 about six months ago. He's said it's great driving the car around, but it was a little anti-climactic. He continues to tinker around with it. Hey, tinker around with it! Is that how you picked your name...Tinkerman?

Terry-

Looks great! It always takes longer than you think, but the work you've done is time well spent. Last week, I started the "quick" job of replacing the speedo cable on my TR4. The replacement wasn't a perfect match for the original unfortunately, so I had to pull the trans cover to get at the hookup. After pulling the cover, I mistakenly wiggled the u-joint and found it had a lot more movement in it than engineering intended. All day yesterday spent under the car and at the bench changing out the u-joints. Finally buttoned it all back up today. And my prop shaft doesn't 1/10 as nice as yours!
