Wheel stud length????

Trying to put custom wheels on a TR6 rebuild.

Having to put spacers behind the wheels for clearance.

Anyone know where I might find some studs that are about 1/2" longer than standard? Also how much of a hassle is installation?

You can probably get what you need if you take a stud to the local auto parts store and have them open up their drawer of Dorman or other brand studs. If that doesn't work though, I think Racestorations in the UK sells slightly longer studs that would work for you.

Do you really need longer studs??
I thought the wheel's lug nuts ( minilite style)are longer to compensate for the spacers required, that is the nuts extra body length go thru the spacer hole, thus the stud/nut contact area remains intact. I have been driving my Tr4a with Minilites Sports Wheels And Spacers for clearance as if this is the case.

Clarification: I am talking only about the front wheels because they touched the frame..or whatever?? had nothing done for the rear wheels.

I didn't have to use spacers (16" Konig Rewinds). The longer studs were all that was needed.

Saltshaker,

I will let you know by Thurs...car not here now. The instructions warned that the new alloy wheels on Tr4a may rub/hit some part of the front wheel area when turning the wheels. Mine did, so I bought two sets of spacer, different thickness. The thinner ones cleared whatever it rubbed.
Spacers are locally available. Mine have eight oversized holes. Warning, now not much stud protrudes out the wheel holes so is really tough for us weaklings holding the tire in place to engage the new nuts.

Saltshaker,

The spacer in my TR4a required for alloy wheels to clear the upper wishbone is 5/16 in.thick, same dia. as the stud hub.

Go to the auto part store and browse the Dorman catalog behind the counter. Pick out what you need from the spec drawings. You will need the same size knurled end and thread.

I used a Dorman 610-114, but had to cut them down a little. The hubs also need bored out to 9/16". The item number is for a box of 10. I don't have the individual number. They can be found at Advance Auto Parts and Summit Racing.
