Wheel Stud Size?

Hi All:

Just broke a wheel stud off. Any idea what size is standard? I'd hopeful to go to AutoZone and grab one. Just want to make sure I'm getting the right one.

Autozone probably won't have it. It is 3/8-24. I do not know the length or the knurl size.

For a local source you might give Winner's Circle a call on Monday. I've picked up a number of parts there. They are at Kamm's Corners on Rocky River Drive.

OEM are 3/8 x 1" in front and 1.5" in the rear. You'll need to take the hubs apart and take it with you so it can be pressed in.

Considering that all the studs are probably over 40years old and have been tightened multiple times over the years it would be a good idea to replace all of them or at least the other 3 on the same hub
The amount of work to replace all 4 is just a little bit more than doing one. Pulling the hub, front or rear is the big job. removing and installing the new studs is not a big deal.

Agreed as I just got done doing that. If there are plans to upgrade your Rims to an 8 Spoke Minilite Style, you will need to go to a longer Wheel Stud. However there is a Catch 22. If you need to go to a longer stud length, a Stock rim i.e. a Spare Tire will not be able to be tightened down as you run out of threads. Keep that in mind. I just realized I'm going to need to order another rim for the spare.

You can just take a 3/8 -24 die and cut the threads back to be even with the hub
Or, just zip tie a wheel spacer to your spare wheel.
I Also have 4 orig lug nuts zip tied to my spare wheel as I have the Mag style full insert type of wheels.

Joe, I don't think a die will do this. But I'l lgive it a try.

Joe makes a good point. I think the lug nuts for the original wheels were a round shoulder and the ones for the alloys are likely a straight taper. Probably not a big issue, but something to keep in mind.
