What does Stone look like?

My '54 TR2 with the original Signal Red body could have come with trim of
Red, Brown or Stone, not the Black that some PO replace all the trim with
back in the mid '60s.

But what exactly does Stone look like? And how Brown was that original Brown?
None of my reference books show either of those two colors in a TR2.

Does anyone know of any site that would show those original colors?
Any original trim color charts out there?

Thanks for any leads.........

Hi, John -

Stone was a beige/ivory color. The '57 I had came with it. Think IBM computer "putty" color.

I may have a snapshot I could send you - PM me your address, if you want.

Here is a picture of the samples I have from TRF. Photo shows good color match. Vinyl on left leather on right. Stone is the color I was thinking of using on my 56. The only problem I hear is that the carpet gets dirty fast. My car was blue on blue from the factory. To much blue for me. It's a shame because I have a Wilton wool carpet set, and trunk carpet from TRF. I'm not sure but the stone color may have come with matching piping. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the replies.....

I had no idea that Stone was similar to beige/ivory/fawn in color.
Was picturing some dark "rocky" color I guess.

That looks darker than the vinyl that was on my '57. I'll see if I can scan the snapshots I have and post them.

Looks darker than the stone that was on my '56 too....almost an off white with a touch of gray....think very very light whiteish gray. OTOH maybe the original material had faded.
My sig red '56 came with stone interior but the build sheet said nothing about contrasting piping and the pics of the car before resto show a piping in certain areas but I think that was replacement interior....the original stone was left on the door and dash capping and was much lighter than the rest that I believe was done later.
Lighter than the TRF samples tho.

OK - these are small snapshots, but maybe you can get an idea from them. I was told that this is stone:

The top picture is closer to actual color.

Mickey,
Thanks for the pics. Looking at them sparked a memory and may have solved my problem of what trim my TR2 originally came with.

Keith's sample swatches looked just like I thought tan/beige/fawn would look like, a bit medium in shade. But when I saw your pictures of Stone I remembered, that is the same light cream color I found on the seat covers under the black PO replacements now on my car. I always assumed the ones under the black ones were an earlier replacement of the originals. Now I think that they actually are the originals! (well 90% sure at least)

Boy I would never have assumed those tattered ones on my car would be called Stone, way to light a shade.

So now I know the original paint and most likely trim colors, just wish I could figure out the weather equipment color as well.

Thanks all......

Your car would most likely have come with either black or white top and curtains, as that was pretty much all that was offered back then.

The problem, as I found, with the British Motor Industry Heritage records is that they were often incomplete or incorrect. In retrospect, I kinda wish I'd brought mine to what the build record said: beige paint, blue leather interior, and white top/side curtains. Would have been distinctive!

Moot point now. And frankly, as long as you're going with what was offered the year yours was built, no one's gonna complain.

The color the Mickey shows in his pictures looks like Healey Grey. That was my first choice for my interior color to go with the Winchester blue exterior. The reason I was thinking of the TRF Stone color was because it was supposed to be original. I would love to get a small sample of the original material that has not been in the elements that has not faded over time. I prefere the lighter color myself, even if it would be a pain to keep clean. You can get the Healey Grey from Heritage Interiors.

Is that carpet stone too, or just the vinyl? Or is it leather?
That interior would look good with my baby sh*@ brown 6
