Where to start. After driving all the way back from ND to CA with the final leg being from Pueblo CO to CA non stop causing major major butt fatigue I figured this morning I would pull the B out and make a trip to the auto part store on this incredibly sunny socal day to pick up some new grease fittings for my truck that have rusted shut and a giant socket and pitman arm puller as I need to change the steering box on my truck which is a PITA thanks to the dealer I took it to not doing the requested and scheduled work but that's a whole other rant
I get out to the B and find it parked outside which I somewhat expected as major work on the house is being done and the garage space was needed again. I find that the top is out and the full cockpit tonneau cover is sorta on. Seats are covered with a ton of leaves along with the rest of the cockpit so I spend the next 10 minutes doing a quick clean up. Popped the hood did a quick check all looks good hop in a key in the ignition and nothing. Battery is totally dead not to big of a deal bring my truck over and try to swing it into position and I spend the next 5 minutes doing a 25 point turn in a tight driveway thanks to a combination of a high friction driveway a steering box that is shot and 32 inch tires. You need to be the hulk to get the wheel to turn while stationary and he's going to break a sweat while doing it.
I finally get the cables attached and let it charge for a bit and finally get it to turn over and it starts right up. After the start I get this huge rattle and vibration directly under my feet. It turns out the exhaust pipe appears to have warped from heat and is now hitting a cross member. Another item to list of stuff to fix. I move the truck and hop in the B and take off down the driveway only to be greeted by a few misses. I take off down the street everything seems to have cleared up till I stopped at the first stop sign. As I sit waiting for a break in traffic I get the distinctive sound of a plastic bag being beaten by the exhaust stream. From experience that means one of 2 things there's a plastic bag back there or the choke is stuck on. Well the choke on that blasted ZS carb has stuck partially on so I end up swinging around the block and parking the B. Pop the hood and check the choke and externally everything is working like it should but it appears that the internals have shifted allowing the choke to still be partially on while in the off position. GRRRRR. I would go ahead and fix it but thanks to a small accident I sliced off 1/4 of the tip of my right thumb removing a stuck grease gun.
That was the finaly straw I'm done playng with the zs carb and the decision has been made to finally just replace the ZS carb and switch over to a Webber DGV and header from brittek. Hopefully my right thumb will heal up enough so I can go a head a fix the choke this weekend so I can take a good drive before the process of paint and body begins.
On a positive note the morspeed bumper I ordered has arrived and the new grill and fittings from a 73b have arrived so in about 3 weeks I can start paint and body.
