Oh Shazbot! Got a Radiator leak on my Shark <RANT>

Dang-it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif I just discovered that I've got a Radiator leak on my 928. Kind of weird as it’s not on a seal but is in the middle of the end cap with the cooler lines. Now it doesn't leak all the time and when it does it’s a extremely small pin hole. But like anything else it ain't going to go away by ignoring it.

So I've been doing searching and have discovered that the CK aluminum radiators is probably my best bet. At about $850 ea they ain't cheap, but the stock/OE (BEHR) ones seem really expensive at between $1,300 to $1,500. Anybody know anything about CK radiators?

Other options:
I've already got a line on a used radiator out of a 81' 928 and should have that by late next week. Most used radiators on eBay are running about $500 to $600 with no guarantees. So for a hundred bucks I don’t feel so bad about rolling the dice.
The next option is to replace the end caps on my radiator. There’s a company that sells the end caps for about $120 and the seal kit for about $100. If I go that route I could use the used radiator above while I have a radiator shop rework the old one.

PHEW!!! That definatly aint cheap!!! Not a lot of Porsches around here this time of year (they swarm like locust at Watkins in the summertime) but I'll ask if anyone has a rad. mebbe I could find one for less than that.

Thanks, but I've got a pretty good line on things. I was just venting more than anything.

But ya know the cool thing is the radiator is a pretty easy thing to swap out on the 928 compared to other vehicles.

On other vehicles to remove the radiator normally calls for removal of the A/C condenser and a number of other components. But on the 928 there’s a couple of retaining bolts and the hose & oil cooler lines that according to some allow for about 15 minutes to make the swap.

That said the down side is still the cost ($$$$) at nearly 4 to 6 times the cost of a new radiator for my 78B – this is not welcome news.

Oh well I should have that used radiator by this weekend. I’ll take it to a radiator shop to have it checked out & pressure tested before I put in it. But once I do – I can have the old one’s end caps replaced.
