Just got word on Bugsy my '68 Sprite- Turns out I had both fuel and electrical issues going on when he died on me last week.
1) Intermittent connection on + Battery Terminal - Car would start just fine but was getting intermittent connection for running - hence fuel pump not working correctly and engine running out of gas. Turn the key and restart connection would be made long enough to get pump working and gas to the carburetor.
2) I suspect pump was going bad as well and was suddenly pumping out too much pressure hence gas overflow at the carbs. Had worked well for 7-8 years with no issues. Replacement Mr. Gasket Pump supposed to be 2-3.5 PSI was actually putting out 8-9 PSI causing me to almost self immolate. Replaced with proper period type tick, tick Master Brand pump from Advance Auto A real low pressure pump instead of the F1 Engine revving behind my rear tire.
3) New point, plugs, cap, carbs synched, and timing reset.
Back to Bugsy running sweet. Now to get the BE front tilt bonnet reinstalled. 4 bolts to remove and a wiring quick disconnect sure made it simple to remove prior to getting flat bedded. I picked up some paint scratches putting the bonet in the back of my Suburban but that isn't nearly as back as getting the bonnet crunched by the flat bed tow truck as car sits so low. A little but of rub out and some more Rustoleum Green and I'll be ready to go. Forecasts are calling for sunshine, 70-80's all through the weekend and zero rain in the Ohio Valley. YEAH!!!!!!
