I am a new triumph owner 75 tr6, I drained the fluid from the plug right underneath the motor, not on the side but from underneath, about a quart of reddish fluid came out. I thought I was draining the oil to change, but the oil dipstick is still full,what fluid did I drain and how do i get it back in ? Can someone please help this rookie ?

Hummmm.... if it's under the engine, I doubt it was fluid from the tranny. Could it have the small oil pressure feed line for the oil pressure gauge?
edit: I only suggest this since you say only a "quart" came out... I really doubt you did since it's not an obvious drain plug.

yes it was #51, so it was the gear box, so how do I put it back in ? thanks alot for the help !

Dicussions abound as to what to put in your transmission. Let the games begin!

NAPA has or can order Stalube GL 4 if it's a 4 speed transmission. If it's a 4 speed with Over drive, 30 wt Non Detergent Motor Oil is another good choice.
You'll probably want a hand pump to fill the gear box with what ever oil you choose.

And drain what's left before putting new stuff in, just in case it doesn't match.

I think you'd find that the Haynes Owners Workshop Manual to be the most useful. I got along with just it for a few years.
If you are going to rebuild the engine or tramsmission, you'd probably want the Bentley Official Workshop Manual also.
If you find that you have a lot of Electical problems to deal with then by all means get "TRIUMPH TR250-TR6 Electrical Maintenance Handbook" by Dan Masters.

I would also suggest a copy of the original owner's handbook (which has information on which plug is which, what kind of lube to use, service intervals, etc). TRF currently has reprints on sale for $11:

Personally, I'd stay away from the 30 weight. GL4 is a much better choice IMO, overdrive or no. Note that, if you do have overdrive, there is another drain plug that you should probably remove to get the rest of the oil out. There are also magnets and a screen inside the plug, that should be cleaned.
