TR6 TR6 Steering rack - tie rods and more...

Ok, guys. I never installed the bellows before and I managed that. But I can't for the life of me get the outer tie rods off. How do they come off? It says in the manual they screw off.

Also, on the one side, I was able to screw the rod back into the tie rod. The other side, it will only go an inch. Therefore, I can't align the wheels.

Please see the attached picture so you know what I'm talking about. Any help would be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, those aren't necessarily right-hand threads (i.e. one end of the tie rod is RH and the other LH).

I'd have to think a long while to figure out if the ones in your pic are RH or LH but you might take a close look at them and see.

They are right hand threads. What are you trying to do?
If you are just trying to set the toe you should be able to loosen the lock nut on the tie rod and the clamp on the gaitor and screw the rod back and forth with vice grips or similar tool. To set the toe only you won't need to take the rod ends off but it would have made getting the gaitors on easier. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Okay, I was confused: on the TR3 they are LH threads as it has the tie rod that is threaded on both ends.

Good point about the jam-nut -- Mike, in the photo it looks like that nut is tight again the tie-rod end. It should be threaded on the tie-rod first and separately then tightened against the tie-rod end once the alignment is set.
