TR2/3/3A TR3A Oil Gallery plug

So,

We removed the oil gallery plug in our rebuild only to find that none of the usual suspects sell replacements. It seems that a 3/4" bolt fits, so the current plan is to cut off the head, create a slot and then screw it in with some plumbing pipe tape. Any thoughts or advice?

Are you talking about the plugs in the side of the block, P/N 567650? If so, I don't think your cutoff bolt will seal. Those plugs have straight threads, and seal between the surface of the block and the head of the plug.

And plumbing pipe tape won't help, as it doesn't really seal at all, but instead lubricates the tapered pipe threads so you can screw them in far enough to seal.

If you want the threads to seal, they have to be tapered threads.

I don't have the Triumph PN, but the plugs I am referring to are PN 328-255 in the Moss catalog, and are on both ends of the block. Do you have any thoughts about how to do this, given that it seems that you can't purchase the part? Thanks

Ok, that's a different plug than I was thinking of. Sorry, don't know what fits there. You may have to tap the hole to a tapered pipe thread.
