TR2/3/3A 1960 TR3A oil leak issue [imagine that!]

I am having an issue with excessive oil leaking from the back of the Atype tranny drive shaft mounting bracket and also the differential bracket. They leak through the splines past the nut and washer. Is there a trick to seal these connections?
I understand Triumphs leak, but this is excessive.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Larry-

Think I have the same problem on the differential if I understand you correctly - when I pulled the driveshaft to change out the u joints, I was really surprised to get a large puddle of oil when I separated the flanges. Didn't fix it (yet), but I'm wondering if a little judicious use of something like a Permatex nonhardening sealer on the splines would help. I don't think there is a pressure differential to contend with so in theory it shouldn't be hard to stop. In theory anyway!

Randy,

It is exactly what I'm asking about. It is terrible to see so much oil leak on the ground. I've started putting a remnant carpet to catch it.
I just installed the new style rear main seal to help reduce the engine oil leak. Now to the parts that not supposed to leak.

Thanks for your post and if you figure out something post back again.

I also see you have a TR3A project. If you need any parts or information let me know

Larry-

I'm search challenged on the forum, otherwise I'd point to a post where I mentioned the oil puddle about 6 months or so ago. Might be worth a search. There was discussion confirming it happens, but I can't remember if there was a solution - might have been the one I suggested already if it was stuck in my subconscious toolbox.

If I understand your description then your diff leak sounds like the pinion seal -- a pretty common leak on TRs I think. Well at least common on mine.

A search of the archives will yield some of the creative ways (seal pullers, slide hammers, etc) that have been used to yank out that seal. I'll be looking there myself real soon.

Geo,
Don't forget your flange speedi sleeve, not a drop since it's use on pretty good looking flange surface (dif pinion).
On the other issue you need to put a thin sealant coating behind the washer around the splines where they mate the flange, a non hardening oil resistant material. I did that and no leaks from the splines (but the new rear seal leaked like it wasn't there).
Better yet, try a Toyota 5 speed, no leaks at all.
