TR2/3/3A TR3A Oil Leak

I'm trying to locate where my oil leak comes from. I need some advise. The leak was primarly on the rear side of the oil sump. I figured out i'd remove the sump to see further.

There was no oil on the flyweel or comming from there.

My question is: If there is no oil on the flyweel, do I discard a leak from the rear engine seal?

Secundo, What is better than the cork seal to seal the sump?

Hello, Yvan -

The oil pans on these engines can be problematic, in that the metal is fairly thin, and overtightening the bolts that attach the pan to the block can cause the metal to become dented to the point where oil seeps through. Your issue may be that the mounting surface needs to be flattened, in order to get a good seal.

The vent pipe for the engine comes out the block near the fuel pump. It is only a tube with two slots cut into it with a hach-saw and then forced into the hole in the side of the engine block. These slots can cause you to lose oil. Try some oil-resistent sealer in this hole to see if it reduces the problem.

Also while you're playing around there, check the gasket between the fuel pump and the block.

Check that the fitting that goes up to the pressure gauge on the dashboard is tight.
