TR6 TR-6 Blower Bearing Noise

Hi All,
Well I did it, I bought my wife a '74 TR-6 for Christmas and am trying to sort through a couple of minor annoyances. Thanks for everyone’s advice on what to look out for in my first post to this side of BCF! I found her a very clean, solid original car. About the only thing it really needs is carpet.

The heater blower motor works fine on both speeds but sounds like the bearings are shot. Reading through some older posts, sounds like a real job to remove as you have to remove the dash? Anyway, is there a way to get at the motor bearings to add a little lube? If so, any suggestions on what? I was thinking 3-in-1 oil as it is very light and would flow easily. May be a short term fix, but she does not want to part with it for a week while I immediately begin to disassemble her new toy.

Doug,
To my knowledge the only way to get at the motor is to remove the heater and you don't have to remove the dash to do this. I got mine out by removing the: glove box, heater vent hoses, heater coolant hoses and the radio. It was tight but it came out. For overhauling the box, visit Paul Rego's site He has a great step by step write up.

Thanks Bob.

Doug, welcome to the forum.

It will make life a bit easier if you remove the Tachometer so you can get to the bolt at the rear of the housing. Sometimes you can get there through the ash tray, but this would help.
