Sprite Blower

I was looking through my Moss catalog and noticed that the BLOWER ASSEMBLY was changed in 67. Does it matter which one is used? Because there is a huge price difference between the two.BLOWER ASSEMBLY.
Thanks
Quentin

I have also seen other places that have different years for there blower assemblies.

Quentin, I'm not sure on the interchangability, but Vicky Brit is selling the components separately, so you may be able to repair it for a lot less than the assembly price.
What's wrong with yours?

I don't know if the US cars differ from UK ones, maybe it's a 2 speed, but the only change I was aware of was in '70 when the blower went to a 1 piece unit.

Other than that, some early cars I've had have had an aluminium fan casing.

Pat, the motor speed is regulated by an external resistor. The only difference I can think of is a change in either the mounting of the housing, or the positiioning of the ducting.

Yes,Pat, but the blower itself, (the rotating fan portion) would be made for the rotation direction of the positive earth connection. If you simply swap the leads, the "fan" would be spinning backwards. But, according to the Victoria British catalog, one fan fits all, so maybe there is a difference in the housings. My listing shows that it only affects 1586 Midgets, from GAN 4 58854 to 60440, and Sprites from HAN 9 71121 to 72033, or 912 of them. I don't have one of the affected models, or I would look at it to see what the difference is.

Hang on a bit, the blowers are plastic cased and have two leads...the only difference +ve or -ve earth would make are motor rotation, can't you just swap the leads round? There must be more to it than that...

According to Terry Horler's "Original Sprite and Midget: The Restorer's Guide," early 1275cc cars had the heater air valve (the flap that opens and closes to allow air flow) relocated to the front of the car, directly behind the grill, operated by a very long cable. In 1967, with HAN9-71121 or GAN4-58854, the heater air valve moved from the front of the car, directly behind the grill, back to the heater blower casing. I hope this helps.
