I haven't posted much on my Sprite in a while but I have been busy. Yes, I made the decision to call him Onslo. His stablemate, the Prefect, will be Daisy. They were two of my very favorite characters. The body is complete except for the hood. This being a LBC forum, everyone should know what that is. I have one but not in pristine condition. Since I don't intend to ever raise it except for unexpected emergency, I will probably just patch and install it. I do have a boot to cover it that looks good. But enough. This was supposed to be about running today.
I completely checked the wiring and corrected any found discrepancies a couple of months ago and got all the gauges and switches installed. Next was to check the motor. It was fully overhauled in 2000 and not even turned since. I removed the valve cover and turned the engine by hand to verify all valves actually opened and closed. then I bought a battery and turned it by the starter a few times until I got oil pressure, 40 psi on the starter (plugs out). Then I had to build the exhaust. Local shop wanted way too much. Finally, it was time to try. First the fuel pump didn't run at all. Apparently I had wired it for negative earth. After correcting that, it ran but didn't pump so we rigged a gravity feed system. Still no luck. The points were glazed or something that corrected just by checking the gap. Finally, the carb needles were stuck closed. With that handled, he fired right up. I only ran it for a few seconds since no coolant yet and I really wanted a working fuel pump. More tomorrow, I hope.
