hi all, i've got a 68 sprite w/ a 1295 engine. all i see is a hole,or dimmple. it's like someone was drilling a hole w/ a 1/4 inch bit and stopped just before it got to the shank of the bit. there is no other lines ,scraches or notches that i
see . any ideas?

You are looking at the face of the pully. If you look on the edge, you should find a straight line scribed across it (that hole/dimple is NOT the timing mark!). When you find that line, if you chalk it up, it will be much easier to see with the timing light. For more permanent visibility, use white paint instead of chalk!

hi mike thanks for imfo. i brushed paint on EDGE of pully wiped w/ rag and searched for mark , groove , line there is nothing visable. the pully was painted black and with age rust has left 60 % bare metai witch i sanded down for better veiwing. the black paint wasn't heavy enough to level a groove. unless it was a painted line?

Didn't some of the pulleys have a notch(maybe on the back lip) instead of a line?

Trevor's in the right direction. On the back part of the pulley there's a slight notch. Looks like someone used a hack saw and cut about a millimeter to make it. When you find it get some white-out or white modeler's paint to mark it. If you've got enough room try a straight edge and draw a line across the pulley. It'll help...a little.

Or if it is possible cut it a bit bigger as well.

My 1098 also only has the lttle hole drilled near the edge.

I believe that "hole" drilled on the face of the pulley is only there from when the pulley was balanced! The timing mark should definitly be either a notch on the edge or a line!

Yep, did find a little notch on the back side of the pulley.

Yeah but what if like me. you've got a 1275 Balancer on there? Need to look closer to find the Timing Mark notch.

On that 1275 balancer, look for the line scribed across it, though I have also seen them notched!

Well when I installed the remote timming pointer I applied the tape for timing marks in the wrong place. Glad I never tried to time it from there. One of those projects that never got done.
