If you're going to drive a car this valuable, there is always the possibility that this can happen. The other option is not to drive the car and allow it collect dust. It's really no different than Warbirds. There are some who argue that these planes are too valuable to be flown. I would disagree...but anytime these planes take to the air, there's always the risk that they may get damaged or destroyed.

I always liked what Jay Leno says, even if it infuriates the purists. The car is made to drive, restore and drive again. Sure some can afford more than others, but as the Mercedes owner said, " My mechanic will fix it." And I'm sure he can afford it. Insurance probably will take a hit.

Oh I agree 100% if you are going to own it you should drive. I'm still very saddened to see such a beautiful car beat up so badly.

Depending on how it's insured it's almost certainly cheaper to completely rebuild than to pay off. The good thing is that no one was killed.
