Spin of oil filter adapter

Changed my oil yesterday,&$%&%$%$&#!!! What a pain in the butt! I am not unfamiliar with these type of engineering torture devices,(cartridge oil cannister's) working with them on older Chevy's, but this one takes the cake. I bought a Wix filter, and it came with three differant "O" rings. I carefully took the old one out, and put the identical sized new one back in. I had a very hard time centering the cannister and the oil squirted out several times before I got it right.
I DO NOT want to do this again, does anybody know who would sell a spin on adepter for my 66 BJ8? Thanks, Ray

Ray: It is often easier to remove the entire filter assembly (2 bolts if I recall correctly) from the engine block and replace the filter insert on your workbench, then reinstall the complete assembly. Try it that way next time! AL Bradley

I use a spin on adapter. I changed my oil yesterday and it was 3 min to change the filter.
The filter is superior (read current technology).

FWIW, not all oil filter elements are created equal and for your perusal you may want to check out the folowing sites and related links concerning the various spin-on elements out there:

Although not covered in the study, I use a K&W element, though the NAPA Gold ones seem quite well
made as well--it is interesting to compare the construction of those to the Frams.

Thanks folks, I ordered an adapter and a K&N filter yesterday. You are also right about the quality of the K&N oil filter (and other products), like everything else, you get what you pay for. Ray

I used an adapter from Moss and a couple of times I couldn't get any oil pressure. Some filters were fine and others not. The one I liked the best was removed from the market so I've gone back to the cartridges. I have also removed the right angle spacer between the block and the filter ass'y. This allows the filter to hang down so that the filter is always filled with oil. No lag time filling the filter every time you strart the engine. I'm sure some people will not like this because of the possibility of the filter cover touching the engine mount, but I don't find it a problem.
