Upright spin on oil filter

You never know what's out there.
I have a side mounted spin on oil filter.
I didn't know they made upright ones too.
Photo attached is on a 65 BJ8 currently on Ebay.

Looks to me that would be a couple of problems.
Oil would leak all over when you remove the filter and would the filter empty every time you shut the engine off?
Maybe he has it mounted upside down???

I think it is a spin on adappter that has been put onto an incorrectly attached angle adapter. I tried that (except with the filter pointing down) so it would look somewhat stock, but alas it hits the frame.

Gravity is clearly working against you in the photo.

That's the old adapter that Moss used to sell that attached to the tecalemit head. The adapter is a piece of crap and should be thrown away, it does not seal between the inlet and outlet ports, negating the whole point of the oil filter adapter to begin with. I think it was probably designed by a retar.... er... mentally challenged troll with a correspendence degree in engineering.

A filter that has a GOOD anti-drain back valve should not have this problem. Some filters are notorious for having leaky valves. Just one of those little things that helps give instant oil pressure when starting.
