I think that I called them once and they weren't real keen on Smith's gauges, (I could be wrong about that) but would do them for a fee. Must send gauges in for estimate, as most (rightly so) require.

Palo Alto Speedometer has been in the business donkey years and has the highest recommendations from what I hear.

Moma in Arizona did my speedo, it is within 1 mph at 60, she is good, and there is no hassle, quick turn around also. That said, there are NOS out there, buy one if you can find it.

I just deleted the email returned back to me from Moma saying that they could not take in any more work for the foreseeable future. I had heard good things about them to and that is probably the proof of it.

I would contact them for a turn around confirmation before sending anything.

I can second to Norht Hollywood.

Used them decades ago. We used United Speedometer in Riverside, California and when Rick and his crew were swamped sent the stuff to Hollywood.

Both places did excellent work at reasonable prices.

Don't forget Nisonger and APT (www.gaugeguys.com) Both of them also have good reputations.

Mr. Nisonger is no longer involved, and I have a friend who is very upset at his treatment by the people that bought the business from Nisonger. Proves nothing, of course, but it's enough to make me want to go elsewhere.

I would say that it is worth your time calling up Margaret and sweet talking her. She is somewhat curmudgeonly, but also can be very sweet if you get her at the right time.

Case in point- I was back in Albuquerque a month ago, and stopped in to drop off my tach & speedo. She came outside to look at the car and asked me if my fuel gauge was working properly. I said that it worked welll until athe 1/4 tank mark and then was unreliable. She told me to take it off and she would fix it for me on the spot. She not only did that (which was amazing to watch on the spot), but also fixed my tach while i waited. She also showed me all of their old 60's testing equipment and filled me in on the history of gauge repair pre and post nissonger (she worked very briefly at nissonger before starting up her own shop in California She then moved to Albuquerque a few years ago). It was very cool; she is a wealth of knowledge.

On top of that service, she gave me the fuel gauge rebuild for free. I have to say that the tach & speedo rebuilds were pricey- about $340 for both of them (my speedo was trashed apparently. However, her shop's work is excellent and well worth it. She guarantees her work too.
