MGB So my friend has a problem with his 69 MGB

Tonight I had dinner with a friend, and we went to the garage to look at his MGB. The u-joint on the rear of the propshaft exploded the other month. Anyway, a few questions. First, the diff yoke looks good still, but the propshaft where the u-joint attaches is toast. So, maybe it could be repaired, but I'm worried about vibration. I'm leaning towards replacement. Anyone know of a good used one for a 69 MGB? Lastly, any tips for removal and replacement? Thanks.

Just keep asking on these forums and someone will chime in who has one. They are plentiful, which is in your favor. PJ

You're in or near a metropolitan area, Mike. Why not find a driveshaft shop nearby and have them look at it? The U-J's are Spicer units, I've had a number of them redone by local driveshaft rebuilders. Better that that an old unit (unless the slip-joint splines are shot, too).

Yep. If they can repair it, they can balance it. Probably be better than new; definitely cheaper than new.

The problem is there's no way I can see a repair on the driveshaft. Where the uj and clips go one of the metal loops for lack of a better term is shattered. Like no flange for a circlip to slip into to retain the uj. So it looks like a replacement is needed. Austin is funny, I couldn't find a driveshaft shop anywhere, even amongst my hotrod friends.

I would be amazed if the yard in New Braunfels doesn't have some. I don't have his info right at hand, but have seen reference to him all over MG boards.
