Seat Foams

Ladies and Gentleman,

After about 40 years it seems as though wear and tear has finally taken it's toll on my seat foams. I want to replace the seat foam bottoms of the front seats. Beleive it or not the back seat have seen little wear. LOL. Anyhow any recommendations? Heritage Trim, Moss, Vicki British?

Looking for a good firm seat for me in the drivers side

Thanks

I bought the Moss foam seats. They were a solid block of denser foam than original. When I sat down, the seat hardly compressed and when I looked forward, the chrome piece on the top of the windshield was right in the middle of my field of view. I wound up cutting 12 to 15 3" deep holes in the bottom to get a ride height I could live with. I bought the skinniest tin can I could find at the grocery store (green beans I think) and cut the top off with a hack saw. This makes a great foam cutter. Hopefully there is a better seat out there so you can skip this step.

YNM2, To the best of my knowledge British Car Specialties is the source of correct foams for the Healey front seats.---FWIW---Keoke

I had my entire interior done by Heritage last year and found their foam to be an excellent fit and shape as well as comfortable to sit on. They will likely sell it alone without their upholstery service. Would highly recommend them. If I remember, the price for the front seat foams alone was about $70.00.

Depending on your model the foams are not the same. The foam Brit-Vic sells is not for the BJ 7 or 8. The Moss stuff works fine for a BJ. Be prepared for a struggle getting the foam in the material. It gets compressed a great deal.

Tony,

I installed the Moss foam and leather seat kit 5 years ago on my BJ7. I have some pictures at the link below. As you can see the foam required quite a bit of filling and cutting to fit the BJ7 leather shape. I also cut holes in the bottom to make the foam more like the original where you sit 'in' the bucket seat rather than sit 'on' top. The Heritage foam is different as they have their own molds. They say their foam is softer and fits their kits correctly. From what I know now, I would go with the Heritage products but they can cost a bit more.

I have used the Heritage trim in two cars, a 100-6 and a 100-4. They are very comfortable, ride height is perfect (I am 6'2" tall) and they look good. I would recommend Heritage. I have not heard of anyone having fitting problems.
