Recommend a carpet glue.

3M 77 Spray Adhesive is good. Holds well but still allows you to pull the carpet. Or, for more strength you could use 3M 90. Like 77 but stronger.

I used the 3M 77, had no problems with the dash and panels. Starting the carpet this weekend.

3M General Adhesive Spray Trim - used it to glue felt backing to my floor carpets. It's great. I've also used 3M 77, with good results. Just enough stick to hold well, but as "Darwin" suggests, can be pulled off fairly cleanly.

Anybody have recomendations for carpet glue removal with out damaging the paint? This is under the top bows.

Try a little heat (hair drier) to soften the glue and scrape with a plastic or wooden scraper to not scratch the paint.

I like contact cement - liquid not spray on. With liquid, you can "paint" the surface with a brush and not have an over spray issue. Also, depending on the carpet backing, sometimes you can't get it thick enough with a spray. As for removal, depends on what is there. Acetone. Auto body supply places have stuff for removal.

Hi John. Without a doubt the "Best" glue to use is "Best-Test" white rubber paper cement. It can be ordered on line or purchased at Art supply, or school supply businesses. It's similar to contact cement where you have to paint it on both surfaces, let dry then stick together. Good holding quality and can be removed later. No wrinkling, curling or shrinking. It's made by Union Rubber, Inc. Trenton New Jersey. Comes in quart or gallon red and black cans.

You might want to give this stuff a try. It says that it <span style="font-style: italic">can</span> remove paint, but I've never had a problem with it.
