TR2/3/3A Quick Help - taking the cover off a TR3 tranny

I want pop the "cover" off of the orphaned tranny that was dropped at my doorstep and need to know if just taking the four bolt off the top cover (looks like the whole top assembly with the shifting rails is housed in here) will do and can this be pried off. Quite crusty and may need some prying. What, short of a stuck gasket, would keep this from just popping off?
John Esposito said to remove the top cover to inspect the innards in the first step to see if this thing is salvageable. My luck there will be some spring-loaded dumaflatchies inside that will go everywhere when I do get it off.

Just unbolt and lift off. It shouldn't need pried unless somebody sealed it real well. Might want to drain it if you haven't already.

If, after you remove the 8 bolts, it won't lift off, it's only the sticky gasket holding it on. There are no springs to suddenly pop out at you. Give it a bump with the palm of your hand or a rubber hammer under the protuding end, below the gearstick and that should loosen it. Note which length of bolt came from which hole so you put the right bolts back in the correct holes.

Got it off. I noticed a little "bloom" of rust here and there on some of the gear teeth, etched them a bit but I think usuable. Oil was still in the gear box, not sure what or where the slack in the gears should be. I moved them about a little, they all seem to spin feely. My big decision for this engine/tranny rebuild will be decided when I can determine if all the major components are reusable. So far, the block and head seem to be ok. Slowly stipping everthing off. Gonna get the crank out soon. Keep ya'll posted. Thanks for the tips.
