was the passenger side mirror that sat way out on the right fender an option or standard? My Dad had it liek that with a '71 or '72 i think but I see others in the same year without them. Just curious.

darn! you lucky sob...mine's a 78 rubber bumper and no chance of having that on it. It's such a classic "let's take a ride on an old British country road" effect!

I believe that was the standard way the mirrors on US market MGBs in the early 70s were set up.

In 1972, both side mirrors were moved to the door. Prior to that, the driver mirror was on the door and the passenger mirror was on the front wing.

My ~'69 MGB~ shows no evidence of ever having a right side fender mirror (or right side door mirror).
It has the standard left side door mirror.
The car is an ordinary USA, lhd drive version.

It's kind of a pain, so after I removed the sun visors, I fitted a small rear view mirror to the right side sun visor mount. It helps (I rarely drive the car with the top up).

My LHD 70, when I bought it, which I don't own anymore, had a mirror on the right fender and one on the drivers door. Are they factory? I haven't a clue, but the car was in original condition and they were on there for a very long time. Notice the angle of the mirror bracket.PJ

For many years things like mirrors and radio antennas were a dealer installed add-on. According to "Original MGB" outside mirrors became standard on US cars in 1968.

Of course, who knows what's happened to the car since then.

The early cars had the mirror and antenna fitted at dealers, AFAIK. They had a "template" to drill the hole for the wing mirror, a convex one on the same stalk seen in Paul's photo. Antennas were a different story (no template), I've seen all-sorts mounted left or right front, even some on the rear panel. Can't imagine the time/effort THAT would have taken if a dealership did it.
