Think I now have all the chrome bits together.

There is no plater in my local area so..........

How do I get a price. Go somewhere and ask or has someone done this to all the stuff and have an idea? Just looking for a ball park.

Grill, shift lever, rear bumberets, grab handle,

Hi Jack,
If you send your stuff out for chroming (especially by mail), write a list of everything and photograph the items. Send a copy of both with the parts. With the dipping and polishing, things do get mixed up. This extra step can save you a lot of grief.

Good idea, in fact an extra good idea.

Check that whoever does the chroming does it properly, AFAIR it should be polishing, then nickel to seal/prevent rust on the steel, then copper to give enough thickness for more polishing (this is where the cost is because there's no way other than a man standing at a polishing machine) followed by chrome.

The actual chroming is quite cheap, it's the preparation that costs, makes sure it doesn't fall off after a year and is smooth and shiny.

Some places will save money by missing out the nickel, but it's a false economy.

Jack -

When I relocated to SW Ohio ten years ago, I needed to find someone to do some rechroming. I was driving down the road one day and saw a bunch of motorcycles outside a local tavern. Went in for a cold one, struck up a conversation with one of the bike owners, and within ten minutes had the name, address and phone no. for three rechromers. These bikers know their stuff when it comes to chrome!!!

You might try calling Don Garlits Drag Race Museum in Ocala Fla. They likely know of someone closer than Atlanta.
It is also an absolutely fantastic museum. I recommend it a s a gearhead mecca.

I went to that museum as a boy. It was cool!

I know I may be speaking sacrelige here, but have you considered powder coating? I saw an inexpensive home powder coat kit that had a chrome finish powder that ( in the photos anyway ) looks really good.

Technically, powder coating should have superior durability and lower maintenance than chrome (I'm sure that statement will spark a debate).

But maybe anything less than original is unacceptable. Just throwing it out there.

remember the more pieces you have to rechrome the better deal you get. and do as much prep work as possible, knock out any major rust, and make sure all of your parts are strait and true. triple-quadruple check this. the more prep work you do the less they will charge you. too bad you aren't int he san diego area, there are about 15 places within 15 miles of me that I can choose from, but I gotta get all my stuff together before I can get a quote to give you a comparison. but I'm so far from chroming its not funny. good luck. keep the updates coming.
