Our loss, our oldest son Josiah Bastedo.

Our oldest son, Josiah Bastedo, passed away suddenly on Thursday morning here in our home.
I'll spare the general forum the details, if you want to know more you can send me a PM or email.
He was 22 years old, he was a good and gentle person who unfortunately suffered from mental illnesses.
He constantly helped me around the house, he was a strong young man and did a lot of heavy lifting for me.
I can't express how much I miss him.

This is not something we ever even thought we should be prepared to deal with. We have had to make many heart wrenching decisions over the past few days.
We have close friends and family who have been helping us by coming over and spending time with us and bringing us meals.
I don't have to go back to work for a while, so that is a blessing.

I am not asking for anything, I just want to let you all know why I will probably not be posting much here for a while.
Family members are giving us loans and gifts to help with the expenses.

Here he is at 153 Fish Camp in Alaska with a Halibut he caught.
That was a great trip with my son Josiah, I wish we could do it again.

I'm very sorry to hear the terrible news, Rick.

It's a terrible thing to lose a child, regardless of the reasons. I have 3 from 22 to 29, and I can't imagine having to go through that, and hope I never do. Sincerest condolences and I wish you the strength and support you and your family will need in the coming days.

Very sorry for your loss Rick. I know the feeling, as we lost one of our sons last Summer to a tragic accident. Seek comfort in your friends and family. In time the pain will subside to a bearable point, but the memory of your loving child will be there forever. Sad, so sad. :angel2: PJ

Having dealt with this in the past, I know this support is a huge blessing and will help get you over the hump.

You have my sincere condolences,--Keoke

You are all in our prayers - was this your son that was with you at the 50th at Road America?

Our condolences and prayers, Rick. I don't think there is any act as unnatural in this world as having to bury your child, no matter the age. I wish I could find the words to help you find solace and comfort during this difficult time, but I don't think such words exist. Please know that your virtual family on BCF stands with you during this difficult time, and I know I speak for everyone here that "my door is always open" if you need anything.

Just ****! I am so sorry to hear this. It is no secret around here that I too have a son with Mental Illness - which is why I am very involved with NAMI and bug the members here for donations every year! I will keep you and he in my prayers.

JP, no that was Peter.
Josiah was 6 years older.

Basil, yes I know and I can tell you the annual plea has not gone unnoticed here.

Living with a child who has those issues becomes a big part of your daily life.
One of the problems we face is feeling guilty when we run into something we don't have to do anymore.
Like locking things up in a safe.
Like the other kids locking their doors whenever they need to go to the bathroom or leave the house.
You think: "oh I don't have to do that" and then you feel like you wish you did still have to do that.

We all have a lot of very good memories with Josiah and we are focusing on them.
