MGB Help! MGB Baulk rings

I rebuilt my 64' MGB gearbox and OD. All went well except 3rd syncro (moss motors replacement baulk rings) doesn't work- grinds when down shifting or shifting up to 3rd at higher RPM.
Just removed the gearbox AGAIN and am exploring. Nothing looks wrong or worn??? Tried testing it with a drill attached at the rear, but it must not be high enough RPM's.

Question- what/ how can I check it?? Very frustrated here.

What you are experiencing is the cone that the baulk ring slides on has been polish by the old baulk ring preventing the new baulk ring to slow the gear down enough to let the slide hub move on to the gear. I always take 180 grit emery and ruff up the cones so that the new baulk ring has something to grab hold as it slows the gear down enough to slide over the hub. It's the same idea when you hone the cylinders of your engine when you install new piston rings, if you didn’t your rings wouldn’t seat. Scuff the cones real well and that should do the job.

Thank you, that makes sense. Do the synchronizer balls and springs hold the sychronizer moving with the coupling and in turn appling the pressure between the cone and the baulk ring? If so, could weak springs lessen the pressure applied to the baulk ring?
