Fuel Tank Differences

Looks like I'm going to need a new gas tank for my TR250. Looking in the Moss catalog their's is $550. Victoria British is on sale for $169. How can there be that much of a difference in price. Can quality be that much different? Our local British Car parts supplier has tanks that are redone by Re Nu for $200. What do I do?

I too saw the difference in price when I needed a new tank. I decided to try the VB tank, and it worked fine for my TR6. The VB tank had a couple of extra threaded plugs, which I filled up from the local parts store....
No leaks, make sure you put it in with the front forward.........good to go!

Those extra threaded holes will come in handy when you change over to electronic fuel injection.

plugs were 1/2" NF...sealed with a telfon washer and Hylomar Permatex.

If you're looking for a new tank in aluminum with almost a 15 gallon capacity Boyd Welding has one that he took back from a 6-Pack Forum member. A little background...... Boyd's does nothing but make custom aluminum fuel tanks.... "special" grade aluminum, brackets are drawn and not bent and very specific welding techniques that guarantee a tank that will last. His company makes over 12,000 custom aluminum tanks a year for auto, marine and aviation. I did a masonite mock up and he built the tank to my specs. You can see it here https://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/AluminumTank2.htm We customized it to meet a variety of needs and what you don't need can be plugged: two baffles, two outlet bungs, fuel return line fitting and evap cannister line fitting. The stock sender is used with no modifications. We did a group purchase in 6-Pack and bought 15 tanks. It's a very exact fit and one fellow has an aftermarket shock absorber kit that has extra bracing in the trunk that interfered with the tank. Dave Boyd took the tank back.... unheard of when you're making a custom product..... so he may still have it to sell.....probably for under $500 plus shipping. More capacity and less expensive then Moss or TRF. I have NFI but thoroughly enjoyed working with Dave and his team during the mock up and production process.
