About to re-install my fuel tank Series I E-Type

I am about to undertake what promises to be one of the more difficult tasks on putting my E-Type back together: re-installing the fun tank! I've watched a coupe videos of the procedure and theres been one common theme - it ain't easy!

Like one of those metal-wire puzzles I got for Christmas - seems like it won't go until you suddenly find that sweet spot and everything falls into place.

If you have seen the videos then you probably have a pretty fair idea of the sequence.

One thing I did was cut a notch in the fill hose rather than shorten it to get a good connection to both filler and tank:

Now looking at my notes -- I see that the grommets didn't want to stay put as I maneuvered the tank into position. To remedy that I tied them in place using dental floss.

Floss is quite strong yet thin enough to not interfere with the bolts. When all is buttoned up it is slippery enough to slide out after being cut loose.

Brilliant! I've been worried about getting that filler howe up far enough out of the way! I take it that notch allowed you to push the filler hose up farther than normal because the vert pipe comes out of the filler neck?

Did you use new grommets and spacers? I bought new grommets with new spacers from XKS. The new grommets fit VERY tight on the spacer tubes and in fact I had to figure a way to get them onto the new spacers as I could NOT get the grommets onto the spacer tubes by hand. Once they were on and installed on the tank they were tight! They are not going to be a problem coming loose. Here's a video I made of the process:
