MGB-GT Follow up ?... Exhaust on the MGBGT all good

Tony had just what I needed on his shelf, shipped it to me quick and yesterday I fitted it to the car.
The new downpipe is way more beefy compared to my old one.
It was very clear why mine wouldn't seal when I got a look at the new one!

The old one didn't even have the clamp that connects to the bottom of the transmission. This one did, but I didn't have the piece that connects it to the transmission. So I went and got a piece of steel with holes already drilled and cut it to fit with the angle grinder.

Everything worked right the first time (this time around) and I drove it around enough to burn off the labels and stickers.

So my MGB is back on the road, I put some nice chrome trim rings on the wheels while I was waiting for parts so it's ready to go to our clubs 50th anniversary bash today!

There were some very nice MG's there today, a beautiful Magnet that my wife went gaga over. Several GT's (rainy day here in the North West) and a few B roadsters and a very pretty MGA.

We had a lot of fun, a really great meal and got to meet & greet a bunch of fellow MG enthusiasts.

Here's a followup question:

How close is "safe" to have the exhaust to the bottom of the car? My suspension is pretty low, especially with me in the seat. I can't very easily get over speed bumps without scraping.
The pipe does hang a couple inches below the bottom of the car. Maybe if I just tighten it up one inch closer it would be enough.

Ok, guess I should have made a new post...

The closer it gets to the underside the more heat comes through. However, a peice of 1/4 inch something to protect you would help.

Lay some floor insulation down that has the reflective silver type backing on it. That should take quite a bit of the heat out of the floor area. I've read quite a few people with LH drive cars complaining of the exhaust heat.
