EType Temp Gauge

My '67 Etype suddenly seemed to be running about 20-30 deg too cool over my standard route. So I replaced the temp sensor in intake manifold, same deal, so I boiled some water in pan, put grounded sensor in it and still too cool. So now on to the gauge. I tried to turn the little slots through the back,very hard to turn, but did get some needle movement, but messed it up and now it seems insensitive to temp. So I took it apart and with little drop lubricant got it so the slots would now move more easily, put it back together and no help. Get voltmeter continuity across the contact tabs. Any thoughts? Also any suggestions of rebuild shops. Thanks all

P.S. A web site says when looking at back of gauge, R slot sets needle starting point and L range of motion

Could it be an issue with the voltage regulator for the gauges? How's your fuel gauge reading?

Ian, OMG, you just reminded me that at the same time I noticed my freshly filled tank reading only half full. One of the poles from the temp gauge goes over to the gas gauge. I somehow manged to block that from my mind so I guess both the sensor and the gauge may have been fine. So now I have a new sensor, screwed up gauge, and maybe need a new voltage regulator for the gauge. Any idea what voltage should be coming out of the regulator? Leaving town for a month Monday but will get back on how all this works out/

should average 10 V, one of those bi metalic strips and heater types, 0, 12, 0 12, 0, 12, the average should be 10 if its the same like a TR6

When in doubt on your temp gauge,

you can go to Harbor Freight and get a Laser Temp Gun.

They are pretty inexpensive, and cheap insurance for your car.

Very accurate, just point, pull the handle and it will give
you the actual temp reading of the spot the laser is directed in.

We use these on Top Fuelers, or hot rods to get a accurate temp reading
when we think a gauge has gone south.
