Here is my engine block being painted:

Looks like four soft plug holes, am I right?

Then this pic:

So are the holes at the top also to be plugged with
soft plugs?

Where else must I place soft plugs into the block?

Thanks,

I don't have my engine available to look at, but according to Moss, they sell 5 for the right side of the block; 3 for the left and rear; and one for the rear of the cam.

Get yourself some nice brass expansion (freeze) plugs so that any remaining rust inside that block won't stick to them.

You have (4) on the right side, (2) on the left, (1) big one for the cam in rear (1) small in rear that is same as the (4) on the side (1) small in the rear and (1) up front.

Please note that these are all SHALLOW CUP plugs. Your machine shop should have access to all of them. Measure each core ID and specify shallow cup.

I'm not sure because I can't see the back of the block but ensure the allen screw is installed in the rear of the oil gallery on the left side of engine.

I'm sure the machine shop removed them prior to hot tanking. I know they did on mine and almost missed reinstalling it. I read on the web several years back of a guy who did forget and all his oil pumped out on initial start. Big mess and not good for new parts!!

If you prime the engine on the stand, you will tend to notice those slight little errors of omission.

It's not a lot of fun to pull it again to replace a missing plug.

Please don't ask me how I know all about this.....

How big was the puddle?

We had a friend in our BCCH a couple of years ago, went through his 3 engine. We had a tech session at his house to fire the engine up. He was all excited about starting it, and decided to forego priming it and spinning the pump for several minutes in his desire to hear it run.

So, we fired it up, three quarts on the floor reaaaalll quick, he left the oil pressure gauge line loose, and an oil cooler line was improperly seated.

Fortunately he had a cat, and cat litter.

Real big! I worked until 4AM in the next morning getting that car on the road for a guy going on vacation the next day.

Good old flat rate. 7.6 FRH for R&R and replace plug.

Second time was on my time for free.
