Pete,
I bought my 61 3000 from Canada last year. First of all if you are ever going to register the car in this country you will have to go through customs and they will charge a fee, something like 3%. I would hire a car hauler,or at least a customs broker, because they know the hoops of getting it through customs.
I bought my car site unseen from a couple of thousand miles distance, so I also used an escrow service (
www.escrow.com) and I think it cost me a $150 or $200. It was worth though, I deposited my money and he delivered the proper paperwork.
The weird thing was the ownership papers. Here in the formerly great state of California they issue a "Pink Slip," not so with the Canadians. The title is transferred through there socialized insurance company, they handled the whole transaction through the insurance company's paperwork, no pink slip.
Sounds harder than it is!
Good Luck,
Stretch
