Buying a car from Canada

Based on what little I know about shipping to and from Canada Pete, I thunk that is the simplest way to go.--Fwiw--Keoke

There may be a custom issue. I'd take him up on his offer. You could locate a local hauler willing to go up to Canada, ask around the hauler's their very familiar with shipping to and from Canada.

There is always the language issue to be wary of, If the car spent any time in a French speaking province.... a British car with a French accent??

I bought my 61 3000 from Canada last year. First of all if you are ever going to register the car in this country you will have to go through customs and they will charge a fee, something like 3%. I would hire a car hauler,or at least a customs broker, because they know the hoops of getting it through customs.

I bought my car site unseen from a couple of thousand miles distance, so I also used an escrow service (www.escrow.com) and I think it cost me a $150 or $200. It was worth though, I deposited my money and he delivered the proper paperwork.

The weird thing was the ownership papers. Here in the formerly great state of California they issue a "Pink Slip," not so with the Canadians. The title is transferred through there socialized insurance company, they handled the whole transaction through the insurance company's paperwork, no pink slip.

Sounds harder than it is!

If you weren't born here (California) you're still just a guest. In many cultures--including amongst the other native Californians I know--it's considered bad form to dis your hosts.

Right, wrong or indifferent, California still leads the world in, well, just about everything. BTW, when was the last time you had to get your Healey(s) smogged or inspected?

All told the cost to "get" it across the border was $1142.00 . Includes duty etc etc. Used an exporter/importer called Stonewell Corp in Buffalo.

Gonna trailer it back to Ohio....love to drive it the 550 miles but playin it safe.
