Bugeye rear brake upgrade - hubs now rubbing

After successfully upgrading to disc brakes on the front of my 59 Bugeye and replacing the MC with a 3/4" unit, I decided to go all the way and upgrade the rear drums to the later dual piston cylinder type. I bought all the parts from a later model Midget - backing plates, springs, e-brake links, and ordered new shoes, new cylinders, etc. Even bought new wheel bearing kits too.

I had the drums machined to remove 1/16" off the edge so they wouldn't rub against the backing plates. Did the changeover, but now the original hubs are rubbing against the backing plates!

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a common preferred solution?

Yes, but don't remember what I did. Seems there is interferance with the shield that catches oil leakage and I do remember the wheel bolt heads hitting the brake cylinders. I rectified that by grinding them slightly. None of it was too severe though. Seems makeing up new E brake rods was more of a headache.

I had the same problem with the bolts hitting the wheel cylinder, but I think that was because the WC wasn't seated properly. I noticed that I could push the WC away from the hub with a little force, but once I got it seated properly and had the circlip firmly in place, I could no longer move it by pushing on it and the bolts no longer hit the WC.

The hub, however, continues to rub against the shield. I tried grinding down the shield a little and it seemed to help, but didn't want to go too far so it still rubs. I'm still running with the original Bugeye axles and hubs, so I'm beginning to wonder if the axles on the later midgets are maybe 1/16" longer, or maybe the differential housing is a little narrower, or if the hubs are a bit different.
