black snaps for convertible top

Where can I buy metal black snaps for the TR8 convertible tops? I ran out half way thru replacing a bunch of broken plastic ones.

Finding the black ones was a pain. I hate to admit this in public, but I found some at Joanne's fabric shop. :shame::redface-new:

Thanks, just ordered up 100 of them. I like all those other colors as well. Now I'm second guessing whether I should have used blue snaps on the grey canvas top to match the seats, instead of the black to match the trim.

Years ago I bought my wife a fancy commercial sewing machine. I had visions of her making seat covers, convertible top boots, etc. Made a great outfeed table for it. Mounted a flexi light, extra electrical plugs, an overhead rack to hold multiple spools of thread and cordage, yada yada yada. She used it once. Its current purpose seems to be my computer table. Works great except for this big ole sewing machine on the right hand side. Everything else about makes it great for the computer. The foot treadle even makes for a comfy foot rest.

One weekend I spent all day and went to a bunch or hardware stores, auto parts stores, and even a boat store looking for the black snaps. I then went online looking and figured out they were sold at sewing and craft stores, I have A Michael's craft store about two blocks away from my house. I walked over and bought all they had, enough to fit my boot cover.

Hey Peter... which machine do you have? I've got their Sailrite 111 which is a great machine for the boot covers and interior panel kits that I make.

BTW.... good old McMaster carries a complete line of snaps in nickel, stainless and black.

Hi Bobby,

I have the portable walking foot machine, the LS1 (no zig zag) and am extremely happy with it. It will walk through anything I can get under the needle (~3/8" thick). Yours is more industrial as mine is designed for yacht owner and the like for repairing sails, covers, etc. So mine all fits in its case and I use a plywood piece to create a large table. Never sewed before with a machine until this and loving it.

And yes, Mcmaster is a great place for hardware too. Sailrite has an extensive diy video section for FREE that is very helpful as well.

Who'd think we'd be sewing!? (althoug I've been a leather worker/hand sewing since high school)
