New 5-speed leaking oil

Having been able to start my engine after all these years was a thrill a couple of nights ago. Now that it is running a problem has shown up. With the engine running and the car on jack stands there is oil running from the adaptor plate for the trans. This is a rebuilt unit that I bought from Paul A. several years. I wonder if I could have messed up in putting it onto the engine. Is there a seal that I messed up? The thought of having to pull the engine does not thrill me but I have no idea about the cause of the leak. I filled the trans with it on the engine and in the car. Is it possible that it was over filled? The oil in the engine got hot after the engine ran for a while but the leaked oil was cool so we figure it must be from the trans.

Do you have the same oil in the trans as in the engine? If not what did you put in the trans. What motor is in the car? Could it be the rear 'seal' on the engine?

The oil in the trans is 90 weight and is thicker than the engine oil. As I stated in my posting, the leaking oil is not hot as is the oil in the crankcase. I'm using the oil that was listed in the instruction sheet by Paul A. for this transmission. My engine is a 948. I also installed the rear seal mod as supplied by Paul A. If Paul were in good health I would have called him but that isn't possible now.

Lucas oil treatment avalible at any good parts house. No relation to the other Lucas, or else it would leak worse.

If it's pouring out then an additive isn't gonna help.
Maybe if its a slow drip.
Being the 90 weight that's leaking I'd have to say the front trans (input shaft) seal isn't working.
Sorry, gotta pull it out of the car again.

Ouch!! That's what I was afraid I'd hear. I don't even know where to get a new seal. I thought that with a unit rebuilt by Paul that there would not be any chance of a problem. Oh well, at least the engine works.

I would let it leak until it stops and see if there is any still in the transmission. Maybe its is overfilled. Hmmn, is there no way to see in there?
I need to change the oil in my midget and check the gear oil in everything while I am at it. Maybe the front seal popped out. The happened on a automatic one time when we shoved the drive shaft on the transmission. There was a vent tube that was crushed and the pressure did it. Man, that sucks if you got to pull it again.
