What to use for exhaust mid pipes?

Need some help. I am replacing the exhaust on my '76 TR6.

I am using a Jet-Coat header and ANSA dual pipes. What I need to know is what to use between them. Would stock mid-pipes work or maybe the connector pipes from the TRF header kit?

Thanks,

My mid pipes don't even come close to matching up with my sport headers,I'm still ticked about that 6 years after the fact. Still don't have them hooked up. Had them coated too!

Tom, I have the Falcon SS headers (split, duals) and the Falcon SS dual system. My problem was and is the Falcon mufflers are huge and hang really low. There is no adequate way to "hang" them so that there is room for them to move. So I used a unique way to mount the whole system. From the header back, I mounted some SS flex pipes (10" long each) from header to the rest of the system, then rigid-mounted the rest of the system on special cross bars that I rigged. If you get what I am talking about, the system doesn't vibrate or have room to expand, save for the middle sections of flexible pipes. The flex pipes are triple-walled SS pipes that were custom fabricated. The system works well for me. The mufflers are still huge, but are rigid-mounted all the way to the rear of the car.

After a number of phone calls I found the ANSA pipes should fit the original stock connector pipes. I also found the header from Jet-Coat is from Pacesetter and is supposed to be a fit to the same original connector pipes.

I verify this if it works or not.

Ah.....that's not quite true in all cases, or at least in mine. It wasn't even close! I had the TR6 towed to a custom exhaust shop and had the center pipes custom made.

Ya big sissy! I just had to drive mine the neighborhood a couple of times with an open header. A noise like that you will never forget. Neither will the neighbors.

I didn't mention that I did drive it about 6 miles and was stopped by a State Police Officer. He "suggested" that I arrange for a tow. While he waited.

No further arguments, sir.

Thanks for the insight and picture. I was hoping that mine might fit better than the combination that Bill and DNK had to work with but that hope faded into oblivion now that I see Paul's picture.

I am beginning to see a great opportunity here for companies that would make Triumph parts that actually fit.

Other parts of my project seem to be moving along fine when I can find some time to work on them. (My business keeps getting in the way, in a good way though)

That reminds me of the time that I replaced the stock muffler with a set of mid-pipes. Resulting in straight, twin pipes from manifold to rear bumper. The pipes were in the middle of the rear bumper like some BMW's. Barely more tolerable than open header (done that too). I kept the straight pipes on for about two weeks. 3,000 rpm seemed like it could almost break glass it would get so high pitched. I finally decided that long term hearling loss was not a good idea and put the muffler back on. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

FWIW, I had to have custom mid-pipes made for my header to Twin Sports System as well.
