I am going to be recovering my dash soon and having been nearly crippled by working under it I decided to make a backboard like apparatus to enable me to work under the dash comfortably. I know that it looks like an ironing board. It was a quick idea that I was able to stick together quickly. It rests over the raised part of the sill and rests on the floor and the outer sill. I used some carpet padding on the rest to prevent any scratches and padding and part of an old rug to cushion the top. If the wife is pushing you to do something inside you can pretend to work on the car and catch a nap!

I've used a less elaborate setup to do the same on other cars too. Saves a lot of my back.

Tough to get old huh? I sure seem to get a lot more aches and pains after a day in the shop than I used to...

My wife knows never to throw away old pillows -- they go out to the garage with old towels.

Your set-up is nice... if you do 'break your neck' working under there you're already on a back board when the EMTs arrive!

In addition, I've found that a pair of 3X 'granny glasses' are indispensable for close up work. That, and lots of light. Have fun up in there!

I'm probably on the young end of most guys on the site at 46, but less than flexible and at 6'2" I have little room in the footwell not designed for people (unless you are a contortionist). Not to mention comfort should add some degree of patience. I also have the old pillow to hold my large head up.

Nice rigging Eric. Methinks I need something like that! I've been doing most of my under the dash from the front seat bent over double. That is definatley a better way to go.
