TR2/3/3A TR3 Accelerator Pedal

Anyone know how to install a TR3 accelerator pedal? I pulled mine out two years ago, painted it, and am now trying to reinstall. What is the trick to get this thing back in? I'm feeding the pedal through the firewall, with the bushes and bush housings in place, but it seems it is a tad too long. Need I install the passenger sid bush first? Can anyone solve this mysterious dillema of British engineering.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's a few pictures to take their place... I was worried about the same thing when I took mine apart, so I photographed taking it apart. You should be able to reverse it to get it back together.

I hope they help, because I don't remember taking it apart. (Though I thought the nail was put to good use!)

Yes, my engine is out too, but some how or another I was able to remove the whole kit and kaboodle without dissasembling the actual assembly. Do the bush housings, on the passenger side, all fit in the engine compartment?

The most difficult part is getting the pedal thru the hole in the fire wall. I removed the nail near the passenger side to get mine out, but if you removed the linkage without pulling that pin, it should go back in the same way. I'd start by getting the pedal in the hole. Then put the plastic bearing between the two holders, and place them on the end of the shaft. You'll have to push the shaft towards the drivers side, and slide it into position.

So, I think the answer is 'yes', regarding the bushings fitting inside the engine compartment (look at picture one, the drivers side, and two, the passengers side -they go together the same way).

Yes, I'm doing exactly that-feeding the pedal through the firewall, with the driver's side bush in place, but when that bush is in place it won't let me push it in far enough to get the passenger side bush in. It's like the rod grew 1/2" since I took it out. Let me sleep on it. This reminds me of one of those wrought iron kids toy puzzles with rings, links and other shapes that just needs to be figured out. Thanks for your input, please let me know any other ideas!

Another thing I like about this forum, it motivates me to look closer at things I've been meaning to. I actually went into the garage, put the parts together, and installed it, just like my earlier post. While I was out there, I put a notch into the firewall, to make getting the pedal back in possible without scratching the new paint (eventually I'll paint the shaft, holders, pedal, etc.).

I noticed that I had to put the pedal in the hole, then drop the passenger side of the rod under that little bracket for the steering shaft seal, and then up into it's spot.

Puzzles like this can be fun.

GOT IT!! Looks like the the firewall was distorted inward just a tad, after the significant welding with body work. I took a rubber mallet and worked the passenger side until I got enough clearance to work it place. Thanks so much!
