Are you talking about frame, body panels or both? Using sand or media blasting on the frame is alright but I would look into soda blasting on the body panels. Despite being assured by the plastic media blaster that there would be no warping on my panels, there was some which required additional bodywork to restore. Some people swear by sandblasting/media blasting but it comes down to the operator experience at keeping the metal cool and blasting at angles. My understanding is the soda blasting is a much lower heat procedure, therefore safer. Hope someone who has tried the soda blasting will relay their experiences.

Cheers,
John

I have had 3 cars media blasted with walnut shells. This has been very satisfactory. They are abrasive enough to remove paint, etc., but kind to the metal. There was an article about 6-8 months ago in "British Car" about the various types of paint remaval and body prep. It went into several forms of media blasting with pros and cons listed. See if you can locate a back issue or an online source to the article.

I had my entire MGB soda blasted a few years ago with fine results. The soda was delivered through high pressure water, thus the cooling effect. Just had my BJ8 chassis sand blasted, and while the results were fine, I'm still getting sand out of the frame rails.
