I've gotta get myself a compressor. I keep missing out on the fun stuff.

Sounds like a Costco size box of baking soda needs to be bought.

I'd go with a dozen small ones. Once open it SUCKS moisture and clogs the works.

Oh, it works, Tom. But it can be "fiddly".

OK. I get it. But the carbs in the bottom pic are not the same ones as the ones in the top pic. What is this "Solex?" Are you doing a Porsche?

Ray lifted the pictures from the article in which the guy used a set of early 356 carbs as a test. I thought the same thing at first...

harbor freight sells soda blast media, 50 pound bags, the crystals are larger than what in a box of A&H, might take you a while with such a fine powder

Hey guys, sorry about not being more specific in presenting the Solex pictures as an example, not what I did.

I am a little skeptical though, and even if I have to fiddle with it a lot, if indeed the results depicted can be achieved, I will be a happy camper.

Ray,

I think that they may actually look a little better than the Solex does. Please post when you have some actuals taken.

I use glass bead at 40lbs psi to clean aluminum. Lower pressure means less metal is abraded by the process. For softer metal, brass etc., I use walnut shells. The finish comes out brighter and more shiny than I've seen with soda.

Haven't tried soda (yet) but from what I read, it's a one-time media - meaning that once it hits the material you're blasting, the soda is consumed and can't be re-used. Good thing about soda is that, because of this, you're less likely to imbed the blast media in the metal surface.

Thanks Paul. They are Smiths hoses that I purchased from minimania.com. The clamps are standard fuel-injection clamps that I purchased by the box from somewhere. The aluminum pieces bolted to the carbs are k&n stub stacks that go inside the air filters and act as a velocity stack. Heat shield is from ARE.
