Need A Part

I am currently rebuilding the engine in my '74 TR6. Took the dismantled lump over to the machine shop that is doing the work. There we discussed several things and I mentioned that I think I need new pistons since one was scored. The machinist looked at everything quickly and said that the others were in good shape and that I would most likely only need one and then use oversized rings.
My question to the forum is; does anybody have a good, usable original piston left over from a rebuild that they wouldn't mind selling? Or does anyone know where I can get just one piston? The usual suspects only sell sets.
Thanks
Roman

These guys will sell you one piston:

https://www.aptfast.com/

Their catalog online is jumbled...just call them on the phone.

By the way, I bought one 1500 Triumph piston from Moss by just calling the local dealer (I know the catalog only lists sets).

Also, you can only use oversized rings with an oversized piston. It's unclear from what you have wrote, but it sort of looks like like your machine shop guy wants to put oversized rings on a standard piston...that's not really possible.

Actually, you can put oversize rings on standard pistons, if you only go one size over, just file the rings to fit. The difernce in the radius between standard and +.010 is not too significant and iron rings should seat/wear in with no problem. I'd be more worried about the piston sidewall clearance after he hones the cylinders.

I am not a professional engine person, but have rebuilt engines in my previous life and seems that yes you can do things like boring 010 over and over sized rings on STD pistons but I would guess you could have some piston knocking until the engine heats up and expansion occurs and the life of the engine will be less but it you only drive 2500 miles a year it probably will not matter, get a second opinion from an expert

Thanks all.
I am still waiting to hear from the machine shop as to what exactly will be needed to bring this engine back up to snuff.

There are some very smart members on this forum. After reading some of the replies to this post I went to my machine shop and asked more questions. It turns out I misunderstood what was said. The machinist will only be honing the cylinders, which will remove less than .002" of material. Since this is still within tolerance that is why we will be able to use the old pistons with new standard size rings not oversize as I initially thought.
Thanks all!
