Leaf Spring Front Bushing question

I'm putting the red Moss poly bushings in. Stock, on the rear leafs, in the front eye of the springs the bushings surrounded a metal sleeve (where the bolt passes through), and then the bushings were within a thin metal sleeve that went into the spring's "eye".

The poly bushings have the inner sleeve - i.e., the one that the bushing surrounds and the bolt goes through. I don't have the thin "outer" sleeve that surrounds the bushing within the spring's "eye". It was destroyed during removal. So, the bushings will be just sitting inside of the spring's "eye".

Is this OK? Is this how they are supposed to be? I don't see that sleeve anywhere in the Moss catalog.

Thanks!

I think that's the way they are supose to be but lets see what others say.

I don't have specific experience with that bushing, but I know on the many of the other poly bushings I have replaced, the metal sleeve is omitted. I think it has something to to with the stiffness and structure of poly versus rubber: the poly does not need the sleeve to stabilize it as rubber does.

I'm almost certain mine didn't have the sleeve and they are the rubber ones - if in doubt, a quick call to Moss should answer your question.

Rubber bushings are designed to twist within the sleeves. Polyurethane bushings are designed to slide inside their seat. That's why you must always use silicone grease when installing, or they will squeek.

I recently installed rubber ones, which have both inner and outer sleeves.
