It's not easy being Green

Kermit the frog wasn't the first to claim difficulties with being (British Racing) green. A few hours with an abrasive wheel can remove a lot of tiny particles of paint. Enough 'heavy' particles might remain atop the work bench to be saved. I have often heard that when doing a restoration, one should not throw anything away. After half the trunk lid was cleared of BRG, I put the dust into a quart sized baggie. I'm not sure how this bag-O-BRG could ever be used again, but it made me notice something.

Cleaning up from a few hours of car work can be a lot like the restoration itself. Long ago, I installed a sink in my garage and usually start my clean up there. My hands and arms cleaned up quickly. Then my shoes covered in BRG were removed before I went in the house to change. -Mind you, I'm not headed out on a date, just running some errands (and this is only a 'driver' restoration). After I pulled off my tee-shirt, I noticed my entire stomach and chest were covered in green dust held in place by the morning sweat (it was a very humid 95 degrees by lunch time). I looked a little like the hulk after something [censored] him off. My shorts were no cleaner. My white socks were tinted green and after a few seconds of disrobing, it was clear that the uncovered sections of my legs were also green. A quick look in the mirror and all my gray hair was gone. It had been changed to green, and I needed a shower. After a quick shower, I wasn't about to put my slightly green undershorts back on (...as long as I've come this far).

The tub is completely naked and stripped down with all the metal replaced as needed. As soon as I get the spare tire lid, the under side of the trunk lid, and hood stripped, I'll be ready to have it blasted and primed.

I just need to clean up a little first. When will it end?

It's been my experience that your nose, ears, and probably lungs are also green. So make sure that you're wearing a dust mask.

(yes, mom)

next time try a Stainless Steel wire brush on your side grinder, I stripped my whole TR6 using wire wheels and boy does the paint come off. it had 4 coats of paint. and bondo too! it only took me 2 days to completely strip the whole car, and only 6 months get it back together!, yes lots of dust, wear a good respirator and safety glasses and ear plugs

My experience, NEVER! It'll be fun all the way, though.
