Why couldn't it be this easy?

I just got a rebuilt limited slip differential for the BMW 2002. Cost was $400. Why couldn't it be that easy with our TRs? Care to guess how much it costs if you want a limited slip for a TR8? Must be nice to open a catalog and buy cheap bolt on go fast goodies.

All part of the appeal of dealing with these old, underappreciated cars!

There were over 100,000 wedges built with that axle as well as another half million SD1s that used that axle. To my knowledge, none left the factory with a limited slip. To get one, you had to install a Quaife. There were around 100,000 BMW 2002s made. The limited slips were not common until BMW started making the 320i in 77. I'd guess more than 1 in 10 had the LSD. on later BMWs, I'd say it's greater than 1 in 4 have a LSD. But it doesn't stop there. Did any TR or MG ever leave the factory with a limited slip? Could you get close ratio steering boxes or trannys? I doubt it. But you could get wire wheels, a luggage rack, or an overdrive transmission. The only bolt on goodies I see for our cars are grill badges and chrome threshold plates.

I dunno, have you seen the bolt-on Supercharger from Moss. Just gotta have really, really deep pockets.

[I wanna see a drag race between a well tuned TR6 with all the hop-ups available and a stocker (you gotta have a stock, solid engine to run it) supercharger TR6. I kinda think the supercharged model will win, but not for long.]

Can I enter too, with an engine built for a blower?

Properly done, a blower doesn't actually shorten the life of the engine all that much; certainly no worse than anything else that will give that kind of power increase. Friend of mine has a Miata with the Moss blower on it ... at 120,000 miles (80,000 with the blower) the engine is showing it's age but still passes CA smog inspection. (I should know, I had to get it smogged so I could borrow it a few months ago.)
